Congratulations to our Facebook photo contest winner Dwain Thomas from Grenada
Who is Dwain Thomas?

To me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place... I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.
I am really quite new to the world of photography. I started becoming interested in it about a year ago, at the time it was just something interesting to occupy my free time. It fast became a lifestyle, an obsession almost. It is so difficult to fail to noticeand appreciate beauty around you, once your eyes (lenses) have been opened.
My life as a whole, has also taken a brighter hue in this last year. I married a woman, who is quite possibly the most beautiful person ever created, and she has become my muse, my inspiration. I think that a large part of my new found interest in photography is the desire to capture every moment of our lives together, my wanting to share my heaven with everyone.
In the beginning I photographed mostly stills and wildlife, but I have recently expanded my portfolio to include portraits and wedding photojournalism. I do not believe in limiting one’s self to a specific genre, but rather capturing life in all its forms.
I take a pride in my art, and in bringing every image to life. I try to bring my enthusiasm and passion for photography to every photograph. The winning photo
This shot was taken on Grenada’s 37th year of Independence.
It was a really rainy day and added to that the persons in charge had the photographers there quarantined.
I couldn’t get as close as I would have wanted to. I was really pissed but nonetheless I got this shot while walking around in the crowd.
“Bredrin your really patriotic”
My thoughts on the competition
When I first heard about the CaribbeanHotels.com competition I was a bit reluctant mainly becuse this was only my first time entering a competition on this grand scale. I spent about two weeks looking at the then almost one thousand entries.
After my evaluation I realized that I am more than capable of participating, not only to win but to share some of my favorite images with everyone. As I noticed the interest grew in my work I started to post more and more and more until I said to myself that enough.
I particularly like the fact that you were allowed to view the other participants entries. That gave me a chance to go out there and get something that was equally good or even better.
The competition more than anything else allowed me to network with some of the best photographers in the Caribbean who’s work I really enjoy viewing.. The competition gave me ‘celebrity’ status and a bit of media exposure. What probably stayed with me them most was that after on of my images I noticed folks saying that Grenada would be their next stop because of its unspoiled beauty. It was then I said to myself mission accomplished. My prize
I couldn’t ask for anything better. Although a trip to every Caribbean Isalnd would have been very nice
. When I got home that night to hundreds of messages and emails saying that I won. Then and only then the reality hit me that I won one of Nikons newest bad boys on the market. The D7000 is a superb camera and an excellent addition to my camera bag. Its is now the camera that I have with me everywhere I go. I am now doing some in depth reading and research into videography because this is one of the strong points of this camera in addition to it ability to capture beautiful images. I am extremely satisfied with my prize and I look forward to assisting Caribbean hotels in any way possible. What’s next for Dwain Thomas?
More images. A lot more images. I plan on sharing as much as I can with you. Just keep following me on facebook, flickr, twitter and every now and then check out my website Dwain Thomas Photography I like to take this opportunity to thank Caribbean Hotels for the once in a lifetime opportunity. I don’t think you guys fully understand the contributions you have made in my life and in the life of the visitors on the page. I applaud the efforts and I really think that things like these are a step in the right direction and it really allows us in the Caribbean people to share with the rest of the world the little the we know and love to call our home. Thanks again for everything.
